the laundry list: what’s new at clothesline organics,
the lehigh valley’s eco-boutique
march 2008

new spring is here! and march 7 is first friday
Our spring collections have started showing up, and you’ll want to stop by early to make sure you get the best selection. More Stewart+Brown and Loomstate have arrived this week, and other brands are on the way. First Friday on March 7 (or anytime, really!) is a great time to check out what’s new.

In addition to new spring pieces, we’ll have selections from 20% to 50% off on Friday. Plus, we’ve replenished our $15 and $5 tables…you definitely don’t want to miss those! And there’s more: we'll have a voter registration event that includes live entertainment all evening. This is the big time for us here in Pennsylvania...the weeks leading up to the April 22 primary are going to be really exciting, so if you're not registered or need to change your registration to vote in the primary, make sure you stop by.

All of the shops will be open on Friday from 6 pm to 10 pm. The theme for the evening is ‘green,’ and there will be plenty to celebrate -- from spring to St. Patrick’s Day to eco-fabulousnes-- all across the southside.

art for Mr. I
Many of you know that world-renowned artist and south Bethlehem resident Mr. Imagination lost his home, his pets, and much of his art to a fire on January 20. As a part of this week’s First Friday, Northampton Community College & Community Artists of Bethlehem present Full Circle: An Art Show to Benefit Mr. Imagination. Local artists have donated their work, and 100% of proceeds will be passed on to Mr. Imagination. Stop by the Fowler Center at NCC from 6 pm to 10 pm on Friday. Details are at www.northampton.edu/news/topstories/imagination.htm.

‘peep art’ contest
And one more bit of fun for this First Friday and next…The southside is having a Peeps Art contest! That’s right—we’re giving away Bethlehem’s favorite marshmallow candies for you to go crazy with. Make a diorama, sculpture, hanging art, whatever…you create it, and we’ll display it! Pick up you free Peeps this First Friday (or supply your own), and turn your art in by March 15. All ages and all talent levels are encouraged to participate! Submissions will be judged and prized awarded on April’s First Friday, during the 1st Annual Southside Peeps Art Show. Call us at 610.691.0111 with questions.

staples
Early spring is a great time to stock up on basics—organic and sweatshop-free, of course. Come by for camisoles, tees, underwear and socks for both men & women, and start the season off right. We have great prices on everything you need.

growing season
Don’t forget that now is the time to sign up for vegetable delivery through a local CSA (community-supported agriculture) farmer. Here's how it works: sign up for a full or partial share, and pay the farmers before the season starts. Then each week, stop by Clothesline Organics to pick up your (huge) box of whatever is fresh-picked that week! Seasons’ Harvest Farm is accepting new shares for 2008; you can sign up at seasonsharvestfarm.com. A great way to support local farmers and get the freshest and best-tasting food around!

looking for crafts
Comfort & Joy, our very cool next-door neighbor, is looking to add local and handmade pieces to the stock that they carry. If you craft, and have home accents or accessories—or anything cool—that you’d be interested in selling on consignment, contact us and we’ll pass your information on, or visit Inger or Randi at Comfort & Joy.

baby news
Having a baby? Know someone who is? Register at Clothesline Organics for the purest, softest, and the most adorable baby clothing around. We’ll set up a time to help you choose the best products for your little one and provide you with registry cards. And once your baby comes, we’ll have a special gift for you. Call us at 610.691.0111 or email us at clothesline@clotheslineorganics.com to learn more.

think independent
Did you see us in the news? In mid-February, we worked with the Sustainable Business Network of the Lehigh Valley to host a press conference here at the store. We took the opportunity of Congress passing economic stimulus legislation to remind people that if you’re going to spend your economic stimulus tax rebate check that’s coming this spring, the best way to truly ensure that the extra dollars truly stimulate our economy is to spend your check at locally owned, independent businesses.

Thanks to the merchants from Moravian Book Shop and Cosmic Cup Coffee Co., as well as Lehigh University Professor Al Wurth and Catasaqua City Council President Vincent Smith, for participating in the press event with us, and to writer and editor Kelly Prentice for her media work. Click here to see one of the several articles. If you do decide to spend any or all of the upcoming economic stimulus check you receive, we’ll hope you’ll keep the importance of supporting the Lehigh Valley’s independent businesses in mind!

would you vote for us?
Finally, Lehigh Valley Magazine is holding its 2008 Best of the Valley Readers’ Poll, and there are categories for Best Women’s Boutique, Best Men’s Clothing, and Best Kids’ Clothing. We’d be honored to have your vote in any or all of those categories! Voting is in the current issue of the magazine, or at www.lehighvalleymagazine.com. You’re asked to fill in 30 votes, so you’ll also have the chance to vote for your other southside and independent favorites. THANKS!
